Quick question: Molykote grease?
I could you a quick pointer in the right direction:
I am about to do the flex disks on out 1989 560 SEL, and as I read through the manual on the driveshaft, it mentions Molykote grease for the centering area of the drive shaft. I then looked up Molykote grease on the web, and found there are a zagillion different versions of Molykote. So now my question is (a) what specific Molykote do they mean? (b) does it have to be Molykote, or do they mean basically a high temperature bearing grease? Has anyone done this job on the same model car? Thanks in advance! |

Thanks. Just a follow up: I did some more research on this site, and found interestingly that people have used all kinds of substitutes, with one person even saying that all-purpose would do, since there is not much movements in those parts.
I used a high-temperature bearing grease. It seems to be synthetic. |
"Moly" suggests long term and specification 266.2.
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolistenmain.php?navigation_path=bevolisten&blatt=266.2&content_action=show Olistamoly is available from MBUSA as 000 989 63 51 and is same stuff recommended for interface between brake rotor and hub. |

If you do, I've got an interesting tid-bid for you: I am a native Stuttgarter who somehow got stranded in the U.S. And yes, German (actually strictly speaking: Swabian, which is just a regional dialect) is my mother tongue. Anyhow, thanks for that interesting link! |
