Blower Fan squeling!!
 

Hello
My blower motor seems to be squealing and this only happens
in the cooler months of the year.All other times its perfect.Any ideas or do i need to change the motor/and or repair it??
Anyone has a blower motor for sale??

I don't like the word squealing. I had a 123 chassis blower motor that squealed and as a temp fix I removed it and cleaned all the motor bearing surfaces and relubed. It's doing fine but the 300E has a dual shaft motor as compared to the 123 and they are more of a pain to pull out that if I were doing it I would just replace the motor while I was in there. If the sound hasn't gotten to the point where the motor stops or blows a fuse I would ride it out until it dies before digging into the dash where it's located. I think O'reilly had this part for like $55.00 not bad at all but there is a lot of labor to getting the old one out.

Don't need to replace the motor just lubricate it. On the 124 chassis it is located under the windhshield-wiper motor (it has to come out to access the blower). Do a search on the subject , there is good info about it. Use ATF oil, it works. I did it 3 times already on my 124s. It takes about 1-2 hours depending on your skill level and urgency. :D

Permanent lube bearing

If you've done this lube three times on the same car then chances are that you are just putting off the inevitable of bearing failure. I've done what you spoke about several times on a 123 chassis where the blower is easier to get to, but it's only a temp fix for motor replacement seeing as the bearing are sealed and can't be replaced. I did notice that the aftermarket motors do seem to have a high quality roller bearing setup, and they're even American made. Might try one of these and save yourself the time of relubing a dying horse.

Charles. note the plural after 124. The first time I did it was on my '86 300E and it worked flawlessly for two years until I sold the car. I did it twice on my present 300E in about a month interval. My guess is that I may not have put enough ATF on it. Time will tell. I can always replace the motor if it does not work.

My fan is starting to chirp at low speeds. This is a new fan I installed a couple of years ago. I've replaced blower fans in both MB's I've owned. Is this standard practice?

At least on this one, I don't have to take the whole dashbord out.:D

I will have to try the ATF treatment when I have time. The chirping is not too bad yet. It is a quiet bird. I have to look at the wiper moter and assembly anyway, it has been acting slow lately.
