ATF? P/S? Oil? or Other? 190E
 

I have a leak of some sort coming from an area right after the transmission pan going towards the rear of the car. Anyone have any idea whats going on with that? I'm not sure if its transmission fluid or what, but it appears to be leaking from the area after the tranny pan. I tried to figure out what it could be and got under the car and stuck my hand in where the leak is coming from and I got a bunch of thick black grease.

Your other option is get yourself a regular cardboard box, split it open and lay it flat under the area where the drips are occuring...after a bit of time (determined by you), slide the carboard out and in your hands you now then have a "sample" (fresh, no less) of the fluid seeping from your ride.

If you recognize it, great. If not, take the sample to a knowledgable individual that can identify it for you.

Now, you'll be on your way to all sorts of fun and excitement.

Yes, I will have my colleagues at the lab run some analysis tests to find out what type of fluid it is and I will also take a sample of the black grease and have them prepare it on a slide so that they can stain it and analyze that as well :-) just kidding. Larry and MGburg: both excellent ideas, as I am tired of trying to fix problems by blindly throwing in new parts or replacing parts that have nothing to do with the problem itself (hence, my previous post about my a/c); I will clean up the area with Easy-Off (that stuff works great) then I will slide the cardboard box underneath the leaking area to identify the the fluid and pinpoint the source of the leak. Ok, so it was transmission fluid and melted black grease that began seeping from a hole.


Solution: J.B Weld over the hole and I bought a bunch of O-rings (172 piece kit) and i will fit every screw that has fluid under it with one. I also, bought a tube of heat resistant silicone to help seal.
