126 SEC Exhaust

When my car needs a new exhaust system, I was thinking about eliminating the resonators. I don`t what a droning sound in the cabin, I`m more interested in helping the breathing and eliminating the the curves in the pipe to the resonators.

Maybe straight pipe to low restriction resonators ?

If anyone has done this on an SEC or other MB, Let me know.

Thanks,
John

John,
If you are going into a dual-ported muffler, I would use 2" straight pipes and put a cross-over or "T" section where the resonators were. This would quiet any remaining popping noise after the cat that straight pipes, alone, would no longer stop.

If you want it especially quiet and/or going into a single-ported muffler, I would recommend high-flow glass-packs in place of the original resonators (just as you mentioned.)

Cheers, Andrew Seidel.

I have replaced the exhaust on my 560SEL unfortunately I am not sure on the brand of rear muffler. I had the two cats removed, replaced the reasonators with lower restriction units, and ran a single 3in pipe to the rear muffler which has dual 3in tips. At 60mph there is background muffler noise that gets deeper under load but never drones. At 15-30mph there is a nice burble at light load and when revved out it sounds awesome. I used a system that was designed for the GenIII 5.7 and it works very well.
