1999 E55 Wing mirror problem

Hi,

On my dad 1999 E55, when ever you engage reverse, the passenger side (left hand side) mirror starts to move.
At first I thought this was so you could see the curb when reverse parking, but the mirror just seems to move all over the place!
Really odd!!

Any advice appreciated

My mothers 530 does this as well, at least it moves down. really bothers me because I have a 300 foot long driveway that has several turns in it and I like to use the mirror to see where the shrubs are. My father took out a post light once, but that was in a rental. You cannot see a thing once the mirror moves down. I do not think it is supposed to move all over though that would really serve no purpose. I would end up in a tree!

Check the owner's manual!!! You can program the "Park Assist" movement into the memory seat (1, 2, 3).

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. The only problem is, when you put the car back into drive it doesn't return to it's original position!
I'll have a good look at the owners manual tonight.

Thanks again

The mirror takes about 10 seconds or drives above 10 mph in order to return to its normal position. So when you try to parallel park, the mirror doesn't keep moving.

One advice for winter, DEACTIVATE the Park Assist by pressing the "LEFT MIRROR SELECTOR BUTTON" or if you have right hand drive, then do the opposite. This will prevent any damage to the mirror or motor if the mirror is frozen with ice/snow.

Thanks for all the tips. I've managed to work it all out now. I missed this little feature in the manual!
