SUN VISORS
My '91 420 SEL sun visors are extremly hard to operate and very noisy. I've tried putting several different types of lubricant down the shafts but no luck. What's the deal? Do they need to be taken apart? Is something shot?

Which aspect of them is too stiff, the telescoping function, the swivel, or the flap?
I would try a silicone lube, being very careful not to stain the headliner.

Mine don't telescope. Just rotate down, and swivel to the side. It's the rotate down that's hard. You need to use both hands and it really grinds. Tried silicon. Nothing.

You're lubing the wrong areas I would say

Yeah, they DO telescope. Don't feel too bad though, I was driving a 126 for 2 years before I realized that.
Try telescoping them out and rubbing the rod down with some silicone spray on a rag.

They telescope not to fill in the center, but so that they will extend all the way to the B pillar....... They come out several inches, trust me. I have two of these beasts. If they haven't been extended in a while, then they will require some force the first few times.

I just happened to have pic of one with the arm extended. They should slide in and out without much resistance.

Duh. Yes. They do telescope. They telescope very easily. The problem is in the normal "parked" position they are very hand to "flip" down. I've tried to lube them six ways from sunday. No affect. Very stiff and sounds like and old hounted house door being opened. Both catches have been pulled out of the headliner because of this. Its not the plastic telescope slide thats the problem. It's whatever is inside the plastic slid sleeve. I'm guessing a steel rod or something.

Sounds like they need to come apart for investigation....... I have never taken mine apart, does anybody know if it can be dome without destroying them?

Interesting, I never knew they telescoped. Is this a 2nd gen 126 only thing? I tried on my 82SD and they wouldn't budge, but then again they could just be stuck.
