Constant ATF leak after replacement. Help!!!
I have a constant transmission fluid leak from around the pan area....not sure what is causing it because it appears to be coming from around that area, but filter, gasket and fluid were replaced about 1 month ago. could there be too much fluid?

I had the same problem, went under the car and took a look and it was a simple problem... TIGHTENING the BOLTS!
Check that out! I hope you can tackle that problem quickly! |
Snugging the bolts could solve the problem, but there is also an issue of mechanics overdoing it and then warping the pan. I would pull the pan lay it on a piece of glass to see if it is flat, if not it can be hammered slightly. Then reinstall with a new gasket but watch the torque!

I was wondering if they weren't tight enough....but I had the same concern about over torquing them, as I have broken three valve cover bolts in the past, one being broken off and becoming lodged in the engine block itself. On the other hand, the leak does appear to be coming from atleast one of the bolts. But the gasket is brand new, which means its still good and as I am under the car I can see the gasket is about 1/4 of an inch ( if not more) in thickness. I tightened it some and notcied I was able to reduce the thickness by 1/4 of that, which means it ws not as tight as I thought it was.....however, as I mentioned before I was afraid of over torquing so I stopped. I don't own a torque so I am unsure of when I am at spec. Should I try tightening it more?
