ignition switch
just changed out the ignition switch in a 1988 560sel, because of locking when trying to turn the key. new ignition still locks (according to my other half), as she is driving the car.
i suggested spraying some wd-40 in the switch to see if that would help. am i on base with the suggestion or is there something that i am missing. lyle austin, tx |
I would sure be using a dry lube rather than WD40.
Might be worth having a lock smith look at it too. |
Did you change the switch (electrical bits on the rear of the lock assembly), the tumbler (where you put the key), or the lock assembly (aluminum piece that extends down into the steering column)?
On my 300SD, it was the column lock bar in the lock assembly that was worn and jamming when the key was removed. I replaced it, and reused the same lock tumbler, with no binding issues. |
