What just happened?
 

While driving on the interstate all the dash warning lights came on and the temp went straight to 120. I was right at an exit and I pulled off and into a gas station lot. I checked under the hood and found that the fan, fan clutch ,fan clutch pulley were all connected but off ( laying against the crank pully) On the back of the fan clutch pulley their was a part (1 inch round with a thin washer that looked like it went into a housing (water pump)? I did not lose any coolant. Of course the serpintine belt was loose with on pulley to run on.

What just failed? What holds the fan clutch and pulley to the waterpump other than the single bolt?

I'm guessing your crank pulley bolts sheared off. This happened to my car according to the records I have from the previous owner. You're gonna have to remove the crank pulley hub, drill out the broken bolts, replace crank shaft seal and reinstall crank pully hub. That stinks. Looks like it cost my car's previous owner over 400 dollars to have it done at a shop.

Yea, it looks like it's the fan bearing bracket. I did not get any photos as I had to leave the car at gas station (30 miles away) I will have it towed to my indi. Hope its not $$$ !

if you fix it your self (very easy), it will be around $150 for the part itself,,,,,

MSRP on that part is $278 (genuine MB part, not aftermarket), available on I-net parts site for $190. While you're in there, you might want to take a look at the front timing cover for leaks. That's a good time to take care of that too.
