E420 Module Box Blower/Temp

While pulling the codes today I noted that socket 8 is showing a dtc 5 and dtc 17 (module box exceeded temp and module blower short). I understand that Mercedes discontinued the blower in the later models. Am I safe to assume that the blower is not really needed (considering they discontinued it on later models)?

I replaced one on a buddies car Mercedes had a redesigned blower and resistor it was a bit pricey but worked well in the end even came with a new cover to clear the motor. So if you need one i am sure they still can get you one, but from what i remember i am pretty sure it was the exact same code. Check the blower motor and see if its stuck and try different speeds to see if its the resistor. The Blower is on the passengers side and you will need to remove the kick panel. and then remove cover which i believe had 4 screws or torx screws, and remove blower see if frozen most times its the resistor.

Which "Blower" is the DTC "Tattling" on?

or

(AAAAnnnnnnnd,Which "Blower" was eliminated in "later" models?)

You Do Need Both Type "Air Movers" pictured below on your '94 E420.

I'm sorry. I should have been more explicit. It's the blower for the box where the electronic modules are contained (diagnostic, base, EA, ABS/ASR and LH-SFI modules). On the E420 (I guess on all 119's), the module box is located where it says "battery in trunk."

From Jim F.'s web site:

Quote:

The module box is closed and air cooled by a blower motor (phased out at end of '95 model year).

When they phased it out, did they do anything else to facilitate cooling?

The EPC shows a hose "from body to blower" (59) and "from blower to module box" (65), but no part for the actual blower motor.

OH!

Never aware the gassers had this Third "Cooling" fan.

(I do notice the airflow is pulled from the cabin? Thereby helping to insure a
"Dry" airflow)
Any cooling for epc s can do nothing but help them.

Hopefully, it's the least important blower motor (and least expensive).

I found it under Heating and Ventilation. Part # 1248300908. The dealer wants $225. Ouch.
