96 C220 Bent Frame? Help? Fix it or Ditch it?
I recently Inherited my friends 96 C220 unfortunately it drives a little sideways down the road, the car had been run into a ditch causing the front right wheel to be bent in or out I don't remember. The damage was fixed on a tight budget by someone with limited mechanical knowledge it seems that the large springy bar that runs under the car is actually bent.
I found a busted stabilizer bar mount / strap fixed it temporary wasted 5 drill bits in the process. The car is in nice condition engine and trans are perfect ac works great, OK cosmetic condition needs 2 mirrors now. 160k on the odo I am worried the frame is bent... The hood has larger gap on one side then the other as well as the fender being slightly compressed to the passenger door. should I try to replace parts and straighten it out or sell it and avoid a nightmare? I will upload pictures Thanks any advice helps. |

Forgot to add the fact I took a look at it on a rack at school the right wheel barrings are shot and there's excessive play in the whole steering rack ball joints are loose mainly but mainly on the right side.

A sidewinder! Sweet.
There is no such thing as a truly "gifted" Mercedes. If it's free.... If it bent the frame, it must have been a hell of an impact! More than a little ditch-dive. "Repairing" frame damage doesn't really "fix" the car. I wouldn't mess with it, but just my 2c.

I doubt the chassis is bent, more likely it needs a full alignment/inspection on an alignment machine at a shop so they can replace anything thats out of whack. Something is probably bent, I bet the tie rods/steering is off. An inspection/alignment at a shop (proper shop) doesn't really cost that much.

With messed up hood and fender gaps, dogtracking, and the swaybar mount obviously shifted- it's gonna cost you money to put it right. If you got the car for free weigh your options carefully. It's wasted.
If you want to part it out and the interior is black I could use a few interior bits. Let us know what you do.
