Gas leak - 95 E320 wagon
The old E320 has been relegated to "drive it enough to keep it running" status. It sits most of the time but gets started and moved around the neighborhood once a week. When I moved it yesterday I smelled gas. Parked it and looked underneath at the fuel filter cover. It is dripping.
Are the lines/hoses under there prone to cracking? I have a new filter for it. What other parts should I have on hand? My wife thinks I should just sell it or donate it. She just wants it off the driveway. I'm starting to see it her way. Thanks!

Mine did that. The fuel filter casing had cracked open somehow and leaked gas out. 40$ fix.

Tim, I recently replaced the rubber fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump and the line from the fuel pump to the fuel filter on our 1995 E320 because the original rubber fuel line had cracked and was leaking. Bought the replacement fuel line from our local MB dealer. Replaced the fuel filter at the same time. It's a simple DIY job.

Thanks
That is heartening news. I'll see if the dealer has hoses on hand and spend an hour or two under the car this weekend. My wife will be disappointed that I am less determined to make the car go away.
Any tricks to changing the lines without dumping gallons of fuel on the driveway? Thanks again.

Remember you need NEW washers at ends of hoses that fit to banjos.

Tim, the hoses on our 1995 E320 had hose clamps on both ends. Check the arrangement on your car before buying any replacement fuel line. I bought a meter of the fuel line from our local MB dealer and cut it to length with a utility knife. Replaced the hoses with the fuel tank nearly empty and didn't spill any gasoline.
