C240 lock cylinder - how do I reattach it?
Working on my son's 2003 C240 and the ignition lock cylinder is loose - and the lock/trim ring is off. Ignition works fine and car starts, but I can't figure out how to get the lock cylinder push back up enough thru the hole to reattach the ring??? And is this the only mechanism by which the lock cylinder is attached to the dash?
Thanks, ryan |
I believe the ring is what keeps the lock secure, as far as "not wobbling". There is a special tool that is sort of 4 thin teeth that goes in between the trim ring and lock cylinder itself, that will secure it. It should spin/rotate around the lock cylinder, you might be able to get it most of the way by hand. I believe this is all that hold an EIS in place, yes (EIS is Electronic Ignition Switch). If you can get your hand under there you can hold it in place and start the collar.

Slip the round trim around key , insert key into ignition , turn to on and pull torwards you, then you can screw ring back on , but you need to tighten with the special tool if possible or gently tap it with screw driver if you can find a flat spot

Got it! Thanks for the assistance.
