I was just wondering what are these? W124 W126 etc etc. i see a lot of you talking about these could someone fill me in on what they mean? are they chassis or engine numbers ?

Hi, Bob:

The Wxxx numbers are chassis codes, as explained at http://mbspy.bacosys.be/wcodes.htm . MB tends to make the same chassis for 5-15 years. Engine codes are an M number, such as m103.nnn for the mid-late 80s sohc 6 cyl used in several chassis.

Chassis numbers.

300E/CE/TE/TD, 400E, 500E '86-'94?? all W124's
280SE/SEL, 300SE/SEL/SD/SDL, 380SE/SEL/SEC, 420/500/560 SEL/SEC '81-'92?? all W126's. There is a complete breakdown around here somewhere.

Lots of different cars, but same base chassis, many shared parts.
