722.3 Transmission
Does anyone have a write-up on removing a 722.3 Transmission? It's in a 400E but they should all be the same. I have all of the bolts out of the bell housing and the flex plate. It just doesn't want to come apart at the top. I have tried jacking the engine. The only thing I can think of that would be holding it up is the dip stick tube...I tried pulling it off the head it takes a 5.5mm Allen but it stripped out so I am about ready to just cut it.

If I remember correctly yes you must remove the dipstick. That would explain it. Since it is bolted to the engine, you must remove it. It is in the procedure. Read all of this and make sure you have everything disconnected. It is very thorough so print it off and check off each item. It is held in by 2 bolts, one on the head and one where it meets the tranny going in vertically. It is easier if you push the cooler lines out the way to give you more room.

You will only have one shot at it, so whack it good to 'crack' it. EDIT: I also just finished up my page on removal...it might help you with whatever you are doing to it http://ps2cho.net/?p=130

I got the transmission out. That is the least of my worries now. All of the springs from the reverse piston grenaded inside of the transmission...It looks like spaghetti.
