95 C280 Is leaking oil : ( Is it head / or vlave cover gasket?
 

I have a 1995 C280 with 141K Miles that is leaking oil. The under carriage is covered. I put it on lift and saw a drip of oil on a manifold bolt. Now I have read a few posts online saying that the inline 6 will leak oil from the head gasket. But with the oil on the manifold bolt it seams like the oil is coming out a little higher then the head gasket. I am going to replace the valve cover gasket anyway because its cheep and easy to do. My main question is how hard is the head gasket to replace? And things to look out for, the do's and don'ts. There is no sign of oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil.

Can you wash down that area real good, either at the car wash or with a can of Brake Kleen? Then use a paper towel often over the area until you detect the exact leak source.

I planed to do that tomorrow. I know I am a little early asking about head gasket replacement... But I am just getting myself ready for if I have too.

I have never done an M104 head R&R, but I have done the M103. These engines come apart and go back together very well. I find on the M103 it is better to leave the intake manifold in place and remove the head without it. I have been told by an experienced MB dealer tech that the M104 is better done leaving the manifold attached to the head.

Hopefully you won't have to find out the best way to do a cyl head job. Don't panic until you locate the leak.
