Question for the C36 crowd

I have completed ( I should say my Indy has) the install of a '96 C36 engine in my '90 300SL. The issue we are expieriencing is that the engine fires and immediately dies, but runs fine if you keep squirting carb cleaner in the intake. It acts as if it is looking for confirmation from the security system to fire the injectors. Did the '96 have a system that inhibits the injectors or is this a different issue?

Many Thanks,

I don't know- did you install the computer and stuff from the C36? There is a writeup in the 124 bible.

What did you pay for the motor- details details.

We used the ECU, idle controller and wiring harness from the C36 thought that was all we needed, but the DAS prevents the ECU from firing the injectors, which means I would have to find the original electronic key, ignition switch and controller to make this work- good luck.
Anybody have a work-around for this?
Michael, do you have link to the write-up?

Thank you,

Thank you,

Just judging by these two posts (not knowing the details of your build), I think you might want to look into a megasquirt system to manage the injectors.

It wouldn't be an electronic key and you woudn't need the ignition switch. It should just have a chip in the key. You might be able to get by with an ignition switch antenna and a key ordered for the car the ecu is from. You might also be able to use one of these adapters that the aftermarket shops use for installing a remote starter into a car with start authorization similar to the GM Passkey system, not sure if that would work or not.
I should have some training materials around for that era if you are stuck on the das system the C36 used.

Oh if the C36 was scrapped and MB knows about it, you might not be able to order keys for it any more. At that point you try tracking down a prior owner to try shaking down a key for the car.
