'85 380 SE Had to install new engine after dropping two cyls but still ran, but with significant smoking at idle, unburnt gas and oil, but cleared with higher rpms. After a time after driving on 6 cyls, the smoking became very much worse at all rpms.
Had spare engine which I have now installed and now very significant gray smoking at all speeds, with all 8 cyls functioning with good compression all around.

Could have what is technically called "a load of crap" in the exhaust system which is getting cooked out. Does it do it on a cold start, like first thing in the morning?
