1998 e320 fan clutch removal without special tools
Is there any way to remove the fan clutch/fan/shroud without the special tools for doing so? I saw someones great writeup R&R of Viscous Coupled Fan, Serpentine Belt Replacement W210 E300D but the fan clutch on the diesel apparently DOESNT have the 8mm hex bolt completely covered by an important looking copper strip like mine does. Yes I'm trying to take the fan clutch off from the other direction in an attempt not to have to buy the special tools.
I really just want crap (fan, shroud) out of my way so I can replace the hydraulic pump for the steering/suspension. I did take the plastic fan off of the clutch but there's still no way that I can see to get the shroud out. Help me ob1kenobe! |

yayaya
thanks, and you're right, but I did manage to squeeze the shroud out without any damage after taking the fan blades off. Couldn't wait another week to get tools but there will be a next time I'm sure. At 150K things seem to be wearing out in front and underneath this thing.
