Importing w210 wagon
Does anyone know what is involved in importing a w210 chassis Wagon with the 606 Diesel here to the US. Or if its worth the trouble.
|
Imported to where? If the U.S. the answer is on the EPA and DOT websites.
|
It'll be a lot easier and cheaper to swap the engine into a car already in the US.
|
Costly and slow if the car is newer than 25 years old, which it is. You'd be better off taking the $4000 it'll cost you to import and dropping the engine in one here stateside.

$4000

Does anyone know of any auto importers that already do it, I would like to evaluate all my options. I have seen a OM 606 on ebay, with out the tranny/ heres a reman. company...http://www.mercedesengines.net/products.asp?cat=44 Would that be 4000 just for importing, and would there be more costs for making it legal here. |
The number of folks that can bring a car like this into compliance is a LOT smaller than it was 20 years ago--simply because it's even less feasible and economical than ever.
YOU will be the importer--they will just do the compliance work. This effort is about 99% of the time applied to high-end exotic cars rather than used car clunkers, as the price range of the former can support the cost. These are NOT low-margin folks. Note also, that compliance includes both emissions AND safety. |
It's also probably not legal to put a diesel engine into a gasoline W210.
