Can somebody give me the good points and bad about a 500SL?

I have access to a crashed car and the motor would fit nicely into an older car I have. The next question is "should I?"

The fan, distributor cap and what looks like a cruise control solenoid at the top of the motor got hurt in the impact. The car wasn't running at the time, so no worries about catastrophic loss of coolant.

Great motor to transplant into a W126 chassis!

I'm shooting for a W186 transfer. I have a 300c with sunroof that needs an engine.

Am I correct in thinking that the thing the size/shape of a potato that was mounted dead center over the water pump *was* for cruise control? It got in the way of the hood latch and isn't mounted in the right place any more. Worse, it took out the sensor that was bolted into the valve cover on the driver's side. That sensor looked like it used to be a coaxial plug.
