Rear Hatch on ML
 

My wife's 1998 ML-320 has a terrible rattle from the rear hatch. What can be done to stop this? I tried adjusting the latch but had no improvement, I have added felt to the latch and that works for a short while, but I need a permenant fix. Any help will be appreciated.

Well I suggest if its still under warranty, bring the car to where yo bought it and tell them to adjust the door. I had the same problem in my C-class...there was annoying rattle from the drivers door and they took the door off and adjusted it and whatever they did. its fine now

I agree, take it to the dealer. There should be a TSB (techinical service bulletin) for this -- it is a very common problem for the '98 and '99 MLs (though I don't know what the problem is).

The latch itself is the problem & needs to be up-dated to a modified version. Almost 50% of the OE parts had this problem.
