I realise this is a perennial issue, but I'm new to the area and need to find an R12 capable - and willing - A/C repair shop in the West Palm Beach / Palm Beach Gardens / Palm City areas.

The vehicle concerned is an '89 420SEL.

As others may have heard before, the usual offer is to convert to R134a – I’m very wary of conversions that take ‘not very long’ and seem to cost just a hundred or so bucks, so I would much prefer to stick with the original R12.

Best to stick with the original set up.......good idea...I used to live down that way, but do not know of any shops sorry. If you want to travel a bit these are the best guys I am told, in our neck of the woods

I suppose you've searched the Good Shops forum on this site? I do not know of an A/C only shop, but my MB independent in West Palm services my A/C and I am always happy with their work, whatever they do. You might want to stop by and discuss your requirements and see what they say.
