New MAF Bad? Or something else?

I've been trying to get my E420 running for about a year now. Still no luck.

The long tale is here for background - W124 E420 Bogging

I started this new thread because this a more specific question.

Latest guess if that the MAF is bad, so I bought a new one. Put it in and the car does not run at all. With old MAF, I can start it, car still 'bogs' upon acceleration. With the new MAF installed, it starts and immediately dies or runs for a minute at idle and stalls as soon as any throttle is applied.

Is the new MAF bad or does this give us a clue as to what the real problem is?

If you don't want to read the entire other thread, here is what is not wrong with the car:

- main harness (replaced 2 years ago)
- ETA (rebuilt, twice)
- fuel delivery system (pump, filter, fuels, etc etc etc checked)
- EGAS (have tried two modules, no change)
- throttle switch (the one under the throttle pedal)

No check engine light.

I keep hoping I'll walk into the garage and the car will be gone and they'll be a small pile of $100 bills in it's place.

On the other hand, I also hope I can fix it and drive it again. We bought my wife a 2006 BMW 530Xi wagon and don't like it near as much as the 124.

Help!

The only thing that means is... the new mas isn't adapted to the fuel computer.

On most early LH-SFI systems, the self adaptation should be re-set whenever a "major" fuel system component is replaced. MB scanner required.

Thank you for that information.

I've scheduled a mobile MB tech to come by Monday afternoon or Tuesday am. We'll see if this ends my saga...

Well lets start simple.

Caps? Rotors? wires? Coils (biggest miss to date as they are mounted under the ABS pump assembly and nobody ever thinks of them. Mine were date stamped 1992 when pulled off my 93 400E. I am like the 5th owner with all service done at dealer(until me).

Caps, rotors, wires - check, all doe withing last 5k-7k miles (can't recall exactly).

Coils, I'll check and see if we did that. I'd brought it up once and was dissuaded from replacing them, being told it was not likely to be the cause. If I did no, I will (if the new MAF does not turn out to solve the issue). I will repost once the computer is reset this afternoon or tomorrow am.

Thanks,

jk

If you look down there and dont see plastic caps on them they have probably been replaced, if they have the caps (hard as hell to get back on took me all day) I bet there probably original, mine were over 200K on them. My car just stopped also, cause alot of buildup on inside of the caps and rotors.
