1995 mercedes benz c280 overheating issue!

ok so i have replaced everything except the radiator and i am still getting readings from my temp. gauge saying that it is over heating, but when i put a temp. laser on the thermostat housing it says that is running at a normal temp.? why is this happening? please can someone help me? and there is no boiling in the overflow?:confused:

check that the wire that goes to the temp sensor for the gauge is plugged into correct component.

Replace the temp sensor, there is more than 1. 1 of them operates the aux A/C fan.

Also check engine wiring harnesses as from 93-95 they used biodegradable insulation due to US restrictions.

so i have done everything that i can to make my temp.gauge say that is at the right temp of 194 to 208.

the temp gauge says that it is running @ 100+ cel. and when i put the laser reading on the housing of the thermostat it say 194 195 and the same on all the hoses and the radiator, so my question is, is my temp gauge broke and i should just ignore it or what should i do?

there is no boiling in the overflow!:confused:

kid, cannot tell from your posts if you replaced the temperature sensors. If not, that's your next step.

i have replaced all sensors !

What is the temp say on your dash? If not 120 then youre fine.

the temp. will almost get to 120 cel.(on the gauge), but the thermostat housing is only reading 198ish(is normal)?

macdrone 08-31-2010 01:01 AM

Well for one its hard to tell with you using 2 units of heat measurement. The heat at the engine cant be 198 if the dash says 120. Take a picture of the reading at the thermostat, and a picture of the console.

120 cel. is 254 degrees and it says that it is getting up to 120cel (254 degrees F~), but when i check the raidiator and thermostat housing id is only 198 degrees F~ (80 to 90 cel) which is normal.

so is my gauge broke ? do i have maybe a fraid wire? the car is not overheating!

overflow is at a normal 170 degrees F~

Sounds like gage is wrong or the sensoris bad or you have the dreaded 93-95 biodegradable insulation on the wires and is grounding out somewhere causes a higher heat to show.

not overheating

I have the same problem on my 95 C280. The temp gauge is always in the red but its wrong. I use my handheld scanner to look at the live data and it shows normal temp ranges, between 170 - 195 F, on a warm day & I take temps with my temp gun also on the water housing and engine. If you notice when your car has been off for awhile and has cooled, the temp gauge will show 60 C ambient temp, a really really hot day ;). My cooling system is clean, no leaks, thermo stat works, and new temp sensor (single wire one). I'm trying to find the normal ohm readings to isolate it to a bad gauge or to bad wire insulation. With key on, if you remove the temp sensor wire (single wire one) from the sensor on the water pump housing your temp gauge should peg way over to the right side, measuring infinity ohms. As an extra note the other temp sensor (two wires) on the water pump housing is for the ECM and aux fans, if you remove that (with key on) your aux fans (plastic fans) should run.
