1989 500 SEL Euro - won't start?

Good evening,

I have a euro Mercedes 500 s there any kind of an automatic shut SEL and it was given to me by a friend. It would not start one morning and the shop declared it wasn't getting a spark. I have been thinking about the EZL. But wanted to pose a question before spending the money.

I notice that the hydraulic fluid is empty and so is the power steering. There is at least one broken hose. Is there any kind of an automatic shut off related to hydraulic fluid loss that would prevent the car from starting? (A possible safety feature)

What is the best way to test for a bad EZL. If there is a shut off, how do I correct the problem?

Thanks,

Ron
