To shed a little more light on this, the "thump" is clearly audible in the vicinty of the right rear wheel, and you can feel it in the hydraulic lines at the hydr. reservoir. "Thump" is probably a misnomer; it's more of a heavy "tick" or "click". The suspension itself seems OK as far as ride goes.

The 4-Matic light is on. I'm very familiar with older Benzes but not too much on the W124 or 4 Matic. The last experience I had with these was in the early '90s when defective speed sensors were usually the problem.

How does one bleed the 4 Matic system?
