Anyone here care to give me advice to replace the lower radiator hose in a m119 e420?

Hello people,

once a again its me, I need to change the lower radiator hose on my 1995 e420

2 of the connection are really easy, but the connection that is headed towards the bottom of the engine looks intimidating.

Any advice, should I take of any parts.

Thanks for all your input guys.

It's a tight fit to get your arm up there, where the lower hose connects. It may take some struggling but is doable. Make sure you have some extensions for your 1/4" drive for the hose clamp. I remember having temporary marks on my arm where it was wedged up against the fan shroud while trying to push the lower hose on.

More importantly though--and I almost trashed my engine on this--make sure you pour coolant into the heads from the upper radiator hose after you are done. In my case, I started my engine afterward and everything was running fine. Within two minutes of starting, I heard the high-speed fans kick in. I ran over to the cockpit and saw the temperature heading for the red line. This was strange because I had checked it only 30 seconds prior and it was less than 80 C.

Apparently the engine is not like a normal American engine as far as the cooolant flow and thermostat routing. Do a search on burping your engine. You may already know about this, but just in case you don't, it may save you some strife.

I just changed the lower radiator hose on my E320. I took the fan shroud off, to free up some room and it worked well
