That rings a bell, possibly the throttle motor just needs to be synchronized. Some cars need the HHT to do that, on others you just need to leave the ignition on for a minute or three and it does it itself.

well, i resolved the overheating problem by buying a new thermostat..

the mechanic gutted the other thermostat and left it in with the gasket , so it wouldn't leak. Members guided me to the thermostat, saying you need one to prevent an overheat... car is running just under 90 degrees c , i estimate

so i am spending money on a car that I don't even own yet.

I have an understanding with the current owner... she will sell it to me for 1700...now that we have solved the overheating.

i am trying to get prices for a used eta and some other parts...

hoping it is a go this week.

i am still hopefully optimistic, but very cautious

will keep those interested posted

Lee,
I also have a '93 300CE. I have been fighting a strange limp home problem for a year. Anyway, I have a rebuilt (by BBA) ETA for sale. I thought mine was bad, had it rebuilt, the problem still existed and I bought another one. Yep, the problem is STILL there. My car has ASR. If yours does, then my ETA will fit. The part number is 000 141 49 25
But first, replace the stop light switch, clean the front wheel sensors, make sure the tires are all the same, consider a new OVP, make sure all three brake lights work and change out the microswitch on the throttle linkage above the brake pedal.
Good luck

I just replace the stop light switch on my 97 E420. If it is similar, it is behind the brake pedal up and under the dash.
