How Can You Differentiate a w124 From a w126 Through VIN?

I see a lot of pictureless ads promoting late 1980's "300 Series" Mercedes, often with the VIN listed. How can I tell a w124 from a w126 through interpretation of the VIN?

The USA version W124 chassis starts out "WDBE" & the W126 chassis starts "WDBC". Good luck!!
