6.9 engine/drivetrain into w126 body? Does this make senses

Is it even possible? (dry sump etc.... )

I have a rolling chassis W126 in excellent shape and do have access to a 1975 6.9 with 120k miles.... Tempted to drop that Euro 250+ hp in that car...

Should I ot not? Is this even pratical/possible?

Thanks!

A much easier task would involve installing a M117 engine, such as found in a w126 560SEL. Performance would be very similar, engine repairs would be far cheaper.

I saw an article where a 6.9 engine was swapped into a w107 450SL, so anything should be possible (I think they even had to alter the hood). I recall the job was done by someone very experienced and it took a lot of time and money. Recently someone on this board swapped a 5l engine from a nineties 500SL into a 560SEL and I think this would be a better option, better technology, etc. Also check your state laws, I know some states won't allow an older engine to be put into a newer car - I don't know why, but someone had problems with it (the 6.9 engine into the w107 was a leter model engine than the car was).

If you are really interested in doing this I think it is possible but it would be a shame to spend all that time and money only to have some bureaucrat tell you its not legal. Personally I would find a great 6.9 with a shot engine and wap that out - they are great cars and great looking too. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll get lots of help here and you'll be happy with the results - the process on the other hand...

Ever go anywhere with this project? It's a Research / Project I just started 2 days ago, after purchasing a 1987SEC and having access to a M-100 6.9, but the goal is Manual 5/6 speed.

There's a fellow in Germany that dropped a 6.9 drive train and full hydro suspension in a 450SLC. Mercmad6.3 will have the details.
