*** Priming Oil Pump ***

On my 92 300CE.

Just rebuilt the front of the engine with a new oil pump and a everything else (timing chain, oil pump chain, guides, etc, etc..). I primed the oil pump before putting it in and after everything was buttoned up I cranked it over for three 10 second bursts of the starter with no oil pressure build up. Oil filter is new and DRY.

Anybody have a clue how I can prime this thing while it's in the car?

Thanks:)
Allen

how did you prime the pump?

Most likely you still have an air bubble trapped in the pickup tube. This will keep the pump from pumping despite a full sump. To resolve I'd remove the plugs to take the compression load off of the rod bearings and spin it until it shows pressure on the gauge.

Well, I have oil pressure.

I jacked up the rear of the car and poured oil in the SMALL hole of the oil filter canister and let it drain itself back to the oil pump. I filled, let it empty itself and filled again about 3 times and then cranked over and oil pressure built up. Seems I had an air pocket in the pick up tube.

Thanks all.

Glad to hear it!!! Just be careful as you primed it before putting it in if there is an air leak at the tube or above the pump then it could go air bound again. Just watch that oil pressure gage. If it doesnt come up every time youll want to look into it.
