Odd noise, M104

The m104 in my car is making a weird noise. I havent had the time to sit there and play with the belt and tensioner to make sure its working properly.

The noise sounds like if you took a latex balloon and rubbed your hand just in a rotational manner... example "squer squer squer" thats what I hear. It doesn't increase as much with the revs which probably means its something pulley related and its coming from the front. Can't point to exactly where.

The electronic throttle body makes a noise like that if you turn the ignition on but don't start the car. Can't say I've every heard it with the engine running, though. Of course, it doesn't come from the front of the engine either...

Could be one of the pulleys going out: idler arm bearing, water pump bearing, air pump bearing.

Only at cold start up for about the first 30 seconds or so until the cat warms up. It's only purpose is to lower smog emissions at start up.

ok, I know the air pump sounds a bit loud and yeah... my check engine light is on due to a think a faulty MAF. I havent had the money to replace that thing.

What about the bearing for a pulley

A dry belt can cause a noise like you describe. With the engine running you can spray a little silicone spray on the belt (both sides) and if it goes away you've found the culprit. If the silicone spray quiets the noise then you get the peace of mind knowing it's not a bearing going out. You'll have to plan for a belt eventually as the silicone is just a temporary fix.
