300E Euro Headlight Conversion, question regarding paint.
Installing some Hella euros,
I am very happy with the looks so far, kinda miss the wipers since they have a geeky, neat aspect to them, but I am looking forward to the increase in light output. I am waiting on the 6 prong euro plugs so I can actually turn them on. I got those off ebay, should be here by Wednesday I think. Right now, the car as it is looks like it is ready for football season with black panels underneath the headlights. I was wondering how to properly obtain the paint code and where to get it from. Some forum searching led me to Paintscratch.com and TowerPaints.com I think that my paint code is 441 Impala Metallic Below are the numbers from the tag at the radiator support area: 9093610 5 124030 12 116466 0 273 412 551 809 841 849 420 588 446 600 00 441 M 491 222 591 241 I think the 441 M stands for Paint Code 441 Metallic. Am I correct? PaintScratch.com wants $46.15 for a 12.5oz can of the basecoat and 12oz can of the clearcoat shipped. Reasonable? |
I'd look for a dupli-color can at NAPA et al.
|
second on dupli..
i have used tower...they are right on the mark |
Watch the "shipping" charges from Paintscratch. They charged me more for shipping than the paint can itself.

Hello,
I went to NAPA yesterday but they did not have a color in stock that was close to the color I need. I went ahead an placed the order with PaintScratch.com. They are sending a can of base coat and a can of clear coat for $46.15 shipped. Expensive, but I plan to use the extra paint to do some touch ups around the car and on the hood as well so maybe it will all be worth it... :-) |
are you refering to the new panels you need to install without the hole due to removing the wipers?i am also going to upgrade to new europian hid lights,i was reading that it needs to be painted, good luck.

Well the paint came in and I got to work prepping the pre-primed panels and then painting on 3 light layers of base coat, followed by 3 light layers of clear coat. Pretty happy with the results, its not a perfect 100% match, but close enough to keep me happy. I plan on using the rest of the can to color match the door handles and mirrors, but that may be a bit of a stretch...
I could not get the factory shine out of the panel's new clear coat, but that may just require a bit more light rubbing compound applications as suggested by the instructions on the clear coat can. http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...50_fHaFP-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...67_Qm8HZ-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...68_3WD85-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...49_289RU-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...81_ZyxsR-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...78_nAghD-L.jpg http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...39_gEicJ-L.jpg Also took the time to install a new set of gauge faces, went from a light grey color to this color. I like it a lot, complements the brown interior much better than the grey faces did. http://tiberius.smugmug.com/photos/1...61_pxD79-L.jpg |
