I installed the 2004 618 tranny and all is good!

I am using the original TCM.... can carsoft recode the TCM that came with the tranny since it is matched with the new tranny and valve body?

Unsure if it would even be needed to be recoded, if the parts all match. Any idea what type of MB the trans came out of? Is it driving OK? Any problems?

well Gilly the car would not start with the newer tcm, had wrong vin in it.

Since carsoft has a provision to recode the tcm, I tried to recode it only to find out it has to be unlocked to be recoded.

So I reinstalled the old one and reset the learn on it.

BUT, while I was doing all this the cooling fan started to run continuously with the key on, and also now it idles very low and will stall .
It drives fine and shifts fine, infact it shifts better now that the tcm learn was reset.

what do you think happened?

To be honest I don't know. Sounds like you should definitely get the coding changed on the new one.

cant change coding, have to buy a new one. Car was running fine with the old one until i attempted to transfer the coding. Now even with the old one, it idles slow and fan stays on. the tach shows about 700 rpm when its idling about 400 (so the car doesnt try to correct rpm) and the fan runs when unplugging any relay.

well I think I see what happened, the ME module was read and attempted recoded instead of the EGS. I dont know how I managed to click on the wrong selection but it appears I did. Now when the code or vin is read on the ME module it gives only the first 4 letters of the vin instead of the whole vin. I dont know how a partial code affects the engine module but it appears to have done so. Funny thing it is not locked out and will start.

Any ideas?
