Help! I am about to break my 10mm allen head socket and my torque wrench! The 10mm self locking nut is stuck. Used WD40 and I have tried turning both ways and it will not move. I am replacing my steering wheel on my 1983 300SD.

First, don't use your torque wrench to loosen bolts.

Yes, the steering wheel bolt is tight. When I swapped the steering wheel on the 560, it took two of us. Use a quality ratchet or breaker bar and a cheater pipe, one person holds the wheel while the other turns the wrench counterclockwise to loosen.

You need the other person holding the wheel because you don't want to put the amount of strain needed, to loosen the bolt, on the wheel lock.

I had the same problem. I had to use a torch to heat the bolt to get it free. It was delicate since I didnt want to melt anything in the steering wheel. I tried everything else and I was afraid that the allen would strip out. I dont undrstand why they have to be so tight. After all the spline keeps things from slipping.

I usually resort to the impact gun to remove them in the shop. Maybe you can get it to a shop and have them try it for you with an impact.

i feel your pain!
i changed my motor mount a few days ago and that 8mm bolt was stuuuuck! try this: hit it with some liquid wrench, then strike it with a pin punch and a hammer. then come back later and hit it again with liquid wrench (lots). finally use a legitimate breaker bar and socket and slowly apply pressure until it budges dont apply sudden pressure as if the bit slips it will ruin the bolt.
try some comet abrasive powder on the bit head to grip. if all else fails try a SMALL torch and dont make the bolt too hot as it will ruin the heat treatment on the bolt. (after you clean up all the liquid wrench).
