2001 CLK 320 starting issue

I have a CLK 320.Sometimes when I insert the key and turn to start, nothing happens. There is power to the dash, but not even a starter click. I remove the key and try again, starts right up.Tried my spare key and the same thing happens.I thought maybe the battery in the key was bad. I also just installed a new starting battery. No luck.Any thoughts?

Thanks
Mike

I can start by saying that the battery in the key has no effect on starting the car, they battery is only for the remote functions.
