W124 - Want to evacuate / recharge AC - ITS 110+ in VEGAS :(
I own a 94 E320 with A/C problems.
Several months ago, had the blower motor, and the regulator switch replaced. After that AC was okay, but not great, but, eventually after 10-15 minutes the ac cooled the car. Now, it blows cool (not that cold, but cool), in the mornings, and hot in the afternoon. Took it to my shop, they said that I am low on freon, and that because of this, my auxillary fan doesn't come on. They said that, as long on my fan and monovalue are in working order, which should still be, to evacuate the system and recharge. Went down to Autozone, found a cheap r-134a rechrage kit with gauge included. They said all I have to do is hook up the kit and follow the easy instructions. Now, not sure if recharging is that, easy, tips and advice are welcomed. But, I don't know how to "evacuate the system". My shop recommended to evacuate the system for about 20 minutes, and then recharge. Would like to get the most out of the recharge as possible. How to evacuate, and recharge advice greatly appreciated! Thanks |

In this case since you are not having a shop do this just cahrge that baby up. Remeber that charging the system is in stages. Charge while at idle with A/C on until you get like 2 cans in there. Make sure compressor engages full time then slowly fill with freon while reving the engine to 2k rpms. With compressor fully engaged at 2k rpms pressure on low side should be at least 35 psi. When you shut the car off after filling do not check pressure as it will equalize and peg the gage. Checking pressure at idle is the same will be pegged until compressor engages.

For charging, first ensure that you have nothing but 134a in the can. Most of these kits contain other stuff that you probably don't need in your system.
Before connecting the hose to your car, be sure to let a tiny bit of refrigerant escape, to purge the air from the hose. |

Wait so the 1994-1995 E320s came with R134a from the factory? Good to know...!

Thx, will charge it up this evening. Hopefully this helps. Compressor does fully engage.
So, although my shop recommended to evacuate the system, you guys don't think its that big a deal? |
