W126 Gen 1 Recirculation flap question

Hello all,

I recently had vacuum problems on my 1985 126 280SE (climate control) with the a/c vents so have replaced all six of the vacuum elements with original elements, bought a brand new pushbutton unit, checked the solenoid valves and replaced the aspirator fan.

I still have a problem in that the center vents now blow cold air on a/c AND hot air when I roll the temp wheel to max heat. The only time the center vents shuts off is when i switch on the defrost otherwise there is always some air coming out of the center be it on bi-level, normal or economy for heating. From what I know once the heater is switched on the center vents should shut automatically without me having to manually shut it

Could anyone please tell me what I am missing here?

On another note, since this model did not come with a recirculation button, I noticed that the recirculation door opens fully when I switch on cooling and closes on heating. Is this correct? Should there not be some ventilation with the heating on?

Would appreciate any help on this matter

Thanks in advance
