HELP! CAR ON, KEYS LOCKED IN

'89 190 E
Both of the keys are on the same ring, in the ignition, engine in running, car is locked tight, windows fully rolled up.

Good thing its in the driveway

Unlike my 300cd, I do not have scads of extra keys stashed away.

Nice to know the cooling fans work...

A few minutes with a coat hanger did the trick.

How do you shut off the alarm??? I disconnected the battery.... of course, do not have the radio code....

Its gonna be a fun weekend

Unlock the driver's door (or passenger or trunk) with the key.

The radio code is noted at the top of MB dealer repair invoices. If you don't have any then call your local MB dealer for the radio code. You will need to prove ownership of the vehicle by either faxing the dealer a copy of the registration, or bring it to the dealer before they will give you the radio code.

As mentioned disarm the alarm by locking and unlocking the driver's door with the key.

Thanks for the info.
Now that I have one of the keys on my keyring and have put the other on the spare keys ring I'll have another go at it.
I'm sure my neighbors were happy (as I was) to know the car has an alarm...

I did not think 89 had a security code, on those radios the dealer had a tool to reset check here

I give up!! How did you lock your self OUT of the car? In any of the Mercedes I've owned, if you are in the car with the doors locked, when you open the doors from the inside all of the locks release. You then step out with the car unlocked. What am I missing?

He will not need to reset anything, the radio was never removed from the vehicle.

Mine wont even let me lock with the door open, and once it's closed you'd need a key to lock it.....

1. Start the car, making sure you have all the keys for the car on the same key ring and that all the windows are rolled up.
2. Walk around to the trunk and open it. Look up into the back edge of the trunk to to examine the light, and notice out of the corner of your eye what looks like a red handled screwdriver apparently jammed inside the trunk body on the right side.
3. Grab shaft of said 'screw driver' to see if it is loose. It is, so you move it.
4. Think to yourself its gotta be a 'stubby' screwdriver as there is no way a full size one could have been jammed in there.
5. As you think 'its not worth the trouble to try to get it out' give the trunk deck a push down to close it.

I hope this tutorial helps out those who want to lock themselves out.
Oh-I almost forgot:

6. When the trunk shuts suddenly realize that it is the trunk lock vacum device, not a lost tool.

It's easier to lock the car by pushing down the RF door button, then close the door, and realize the keys are inside. Or, get your laptop out of the LR door, reach forward to push down the driver's lock button, close the door, and realize that you put your keys on the seat while picking up your laptop case etc., ...

I lock the doors with the lock button from the rear door opening, but have a system where I pocket the keys before opening the rear door, almost always have my laptop there. Never have locked my keys in the car (knocking on wood).

My cat once locked himself in when I put him in the car while I was working on it. I left the key with remote on the driver seat.

On my 300SE you can lock it from the passenger's side with the door open. Not sure why. Not so on my 560SEL.

I do like the warning sticker on the 190's trunk that tells you if you lock the trunk with the key it locks everything.

I really like the way my old bug has one door key lock- you have to lock the passenger door from the inside before you get out, and the drivfers door with the key.

The radio makes a clicking sound and does not work- apparently the car sat with a dead battery for a long time. Once I get it registered I'll roll around to the dealer to have it reset.

Hold the catch down on the bug's door handle and you can lock the driver's door while open.
