How to change ashtray light (95 C280)?

Hi,

I have a 95 C280 and the ashtray light bulb is burnt out. Can anyone please tell me how to take out the light bulb so that I can replace it?

Thanks very much in advance.

Hopefully the same

Hopefully your Benz is not much different than the three I have, although the years I have are somewhat older. If you remove the ashtray there should be two screws that will need to be removed and the ashtray assembly will pull out and the rear of it will expose a socket that can be removed from the assembly that houses the bulb. Have your replacement ready before starting this task. The bulb is quite small that you will be replacing.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the info. I used to have a W124 300E and your procedures are correct for a W124. However, my C280 doesn't seem to have the same arrangement.

Does anyone know how to replace the ashtray light in a W202 C280? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I hope that the method is the easier of the two I have in mind...

1. Remove ashtray peice. Now, with the ashtray removed, I believe the light should be exposed.... Is there enough space in there to swap it out?

2. Remove lower console wood (pull up plastic shift trim surrounding, from there, you can pull up the console wood from the front end.). Pull out "sunglass" bin below the ashtray (the small storage pocket). You should then see 2 screws at the bottom of the ash tray, on either side. Unscrew them, pulling out the entire ashtray mechanism, while releasing/sliding it from the storage pocket (or) cassette holders (whichever you have). And try and figure it out from there with the unit out.

Good luck!
