Can 300E fuel pumps work but still be bad?

I was just reading about the new Class Action Lawsuit against BMW concerning their N54 Engine and the high pressure fuel pumps that are causing problems with acceleration lag when they don't perform at 100%.
Is this something that the old W124's could also be experiencing causing hard starts and slow acceleration from a stopped position? I have noticed that my car sometimes has get up and go when sitting at a light and other times...barely seems to want to get up and go. My car has 2 fuel pumps. Will replacing just one make a difference if so?

If you do one pump you do the other.

Only last night I replaced fuel pumps, filters and accumulator on my W124 260e. Seat of the pants meter is telling me that that acceleration has improved remarkably.

I have not had a problem with cold starts - near instant start on the first turn of the key. A little lag on hot starts. I noticed more of a difference in the start department after I changed the injectors and injector seals .

I have been toying with the idea of replacing either the injectors or fuel pumps next (both are a bit pricey). Car has 188K. Once it's started, it idles and performs well but lags on takeoff. Now, I did buy a performance chip that I connected to the air intake sensor and noticed a substantial improvement in starting, idle, acceleration, and power but switched it back to just the air intake sensor to see the difference in mpg. That's when I noticed that this thing is lagging and doesn't seem like it should have to. What would you go at first...injectors or fuel pumps?

The pumps can get noisy and tired when old. My sister's 190e has really loud pumps and a significant lag when punching the throttle. Pumps are being replaced by me in the next couple days. I will report my findings/results.

OK. Good. let me know what happens. I just finished putting a new waterpump in my daughter's '87 300E tonight. When I started her car, the pump sounded much stronger than mine and fired right up on the first start! I have a '91 with 2 pumps and they are quiet but maybe they're losing the pressure. I'm having to crank too much now and it's always a week start :(
