1995 W124 Wagon - tailgate window washer
 

I am curious if others have had a problem with the rear window washer fluid being clogged or other issue causing no delivery of said fluid? If yes, what was the problem and solution? There is power at the reservoir pump so my best guess is that it is a blockage somewhere in the hoses. Thanks...:)

Breakage of the hose in the tailgate hinge area is not uncommon and is a pretty big PITA to repair (properly). Often this is associated with washer fluid leaking from the right rear corner of the headliner. Not a good scenario as there is a fair bit of wiring in that same area. FWIW, mine is broken and I'm in no hurry to repair it.

I am not seeing any hint of water in the area you suggest. I should look really close in case it use leaking.

I understand your not wanting to tackle it - doesn't seem very easy to do. My car only has << 89K miles on it and is in extraordinary condition for a 16 year old and would really like to have ALL systems functioning properly. May be pipe dream on this one?! :)

Are you sure that the pump is running?

i want a way to delete the nozzle! looks like a piece of sheet metal and some bondo is in order!

It's been about 6 mo since I last messed with it, but seems I remember hearing the pump when the switch was toggled. I did check the wiring harness connection and it had current to it.

Mine died about 2 years ago. First it was a leak, then the pump died. I tried getting in there to see if I could fix it but it looked to be a PITA. Now my windshield washer won't work. I think that pump died too. That is why I am on here looking for info!

Sorry I don't have any more to offer you, other then I am very jealous of your car! Mine has over 200k on it and I would die for one like yours!

Thanks! I kinda came to the same conclusion when I got in there to see what might be going on. Sorry to hear that your front washers are not working now! It may be a bit easier to get to to DIY? :o

Thanks for the kudos on the car. It is a fine car BUT it is a 15 year old car and things are bound to start breaking and then it soon becomes just another w124 wagon! I like 'stock' and original, factory configuration on my cars...I am after all, 56 years old and no longer get a thrill as I once did tricking out my cars with this or that doodad! When my rear view seems blurred from a dirty window, I like to push a button and clear it! If that's not important to others, then, so be it!

Getting it ready to make a trip to FL next week and have renewed my AAA Club membership since I recently received the letter from MB stating that they will no longer come to my rescue (not that I ever used it anyway!) in the event I have a problem. New rules are if I have spent at least $100 at a MB dealership service department within the previous 18months then they will respond to an SOS call along side the road! I do most all my maintenance other than the 'big' stuff - at which point I take it to an indy European repair shop.

One thing that seems to help with keeping the windows clear is to use RainX. I clean my windows and apply RainX every month or so.

I am with you on keeping things factory spec, but it is a struggle when cars get this old. In general, this vehicle is not too hard to work on. I always use MB/OEM parts when I do repairs, and if it is above my head or I dont want to deal with it, I bring it to my mechanic who is a MB master mechanic. You probably already know this, but having a Mercedes mechanic is a must! I wish I met my mechanic 8 years ago when I bought the car, he would have saved me a lot of headaches and money!

Not sure if you know this already, but there are three big ticket items that go on this model, (head gasket, reverse in tranny, wiring harness). Have you had any issues with these?

Yes indeed, it is important to have a good and dependable (honest) mechanic anytime you are driving an 'older' car. But we drive one of the finest cars manufactured and if treated well, they will return many, many worry free miles to us!

I am aware of these big ticket items! Mine still has the crappy, original harness but was told by my mechanic to leave it alone until it starts acting up. Just hope it doesn't happen on way to FL next week! Although, I think they give some warning to its demise? I don't understand MB engineer's decision to use a "bio-degradable" insulation on the harness! Doesn't make a bit of sense to me...:mad:

My car was owned by a 91 year old gentleman and it had been driven only 1000 miles the previous 6 - 8 mos before my purchase. It's not always a good thing buying a low-mileage car if it is a decade or more old because other factors come into play, such as seals and gaskets, wiring insulation, and suspension parts deterioration from nothing other than time (age). But, we take the gamble! I had a pre-purchase inspection done by a local MB dealership and was told about these issues but that they weren't currently showing any signs of failure at the time (~ 16 mos. ago). So I am aware of them and will cross those proverbial bridges when they come...
