W126 interior lights, ALL of them? Help! :)

I am going to replace the interior lights on my 560 SEL. The dash lights I have pretty much what I need figured out. 194 lamps, which I have a box of.

But I can not find what it needed for switches and such. I know some are built-in, which I would like to replace if at all possible, but then a few run on fiber optic. Is there only one fiber optic feeder light or are there more? I only found one for a few of the accessory stuff like rear defrost, air circ, etc.

Any help would be great!

I believe it's just one, should be behind the radio.
Usually the switches which are self-illuminated are not normally replaceable.
On the 126 there might be one switch on the far left that is lighted with fiber optics from the instrument panel instead of the central bulb.

I looked for lamps today and found a 9.3 watt lamp. Seems it might run rather hot. That would be for the small one. Anyone know what the lamp is rated, wattage wise?

I believe it's supposed to be a 1.2w. Using a brighter one will surely melt the holder.

Thumbs up

2721 are the tiny bulbs that light up the fiber optics. They are about $2.50/ea.

The headlight switch also lights up on second gen W126s.

Do NOT use overwattage bulbs, stuff will melt down.

Sylvania has all the sizes listed on their website.

Yup, 2721 is what I found and the packaging said 9.3 watts. Seems a but much?

from what I read:

Instrument cluster max 4 watt (5 reported to melt) 3 watt is stock.
Idiot lights, etc. 1.2 watt, up to 2 watt ok

I would not go with higher than stock wattage. Many of the bulbs are cloudy inside the glass... so they output is very low and once you replace with new ones, you will be surprised at the output.

Also I hate very bright interior lights at night, I keep my lights pretty dim.

I will have to see what I can find. Most are ok, its the fiber optic center one that is very, very dim. And the cluster lights were great but have dimmed a bunch since I last worked on the dimmer switch.
