Lyle, check all fluid (oil, coolant, power steering fluid and transmission fluid) levels regularly for a few weeks and see if any are being consumed. It's obvious something is burning.

How did the shop confirm that the head gasket was not at fault?

I wouldn't be too worried since it was early morning. Might be just condensation burning off from exhaust.

Incline could have made some coolant leak out of the expansion tank, and dripped onto the exhaust manifold, as it heated up it evaporates and turns to white smoke. Was it out of the exhaust or under the hood? Just a thought...better hope it wasn't the HG!
