2000 S500 abs/brake system warning light
 

The ABS and brake system warning lights are illuminated and the car is stuck in park. In addition, the brake lights do no opreate when the brake pedal is pushed. Turn signals and hazards are functioning properly. Any suggestions?:confused:

Bad brake light switch. Almost 100% sure this is the problem. All manufacturers seem to have problems with them, MB no exception, I'd be willing to say MB worse than some other companies.

It that the switch with the plunger right above the brake peda?l

How do I remove the brake switch? I removed the lower panel and there seems to be some plastic surrounding it. DOes it just pop out or is there some twisting and turning involved?

IIRC there is a tab on the top and bottom (or just one on the top OR bottom. Hmmm.) and then it is 1/4 turn to remove it.

So you installed a new switch and adjusted it?

Adjusted it? No, didn't know it needed to be adjusted. How do I do that?
