M117 PCV system
If the PCV circuit is plugged up with carbon, not allowing flow from drivers valve cover to idle air distributor, what sorts of problems could this cause?
I was bored and aggravated with my engine today so I removed, disassembled and cleaned the IA distributor and found not only the little orifice plugged, but the ENTIRE PCV hose and the valve cover end was full of milky oil condensation.... |
PCV is a vital function on every car made after 1964.
Yes, getting the engine up to temp & allowing the PCV to remove vapors is critical. |
I think my clogged PCV orifice resulted in:
a.) When I stop at a light or drive thru, the engine will idle fine, for a bout a minute then begins to lug. I envision the crank case pressurizing, and putting negative force against the underside of the piston. b.) large accumulation of milky oil in air cleaner and in the valve covers c.) at air temps below -20*C sensor plate ices up flooding engine. (excess moisture coming thru the fresh air hose from air cleaner because the other side of the PCV system is plugged.) I've already noticed an ENORMOUS increase in fuel economy, just on the motion of my fuel gauge, as well as a marked improvement in acceleration! :) |
