cabin trunk release
In my 99 E430 the trunk release in the console does not work. It works from the key. I pulled out the board and pushed on the switch still nothing. anyone know how this is wired.

Not "wired" at all.
That switch is part of a computer. That computer sends signal to the PSE (central lock) pump & that pressurizes the vacuum element on the latch. |
Is the same vac element controlled by both the key and the console switch? Can i assume the element is good if it works from the key?

As MB DOC stated, the element is activated by the "PSE" lock /unlock pump. The same pressure that unlocks the doors fuel, trunk, and fuel door. There is a solenoid in the line that keeps the lid from releasing when locking and unlocking, the switch starts the pump and also activates the solenoid, the key acts only on the mechanical switch but will send a unlock signal to the PSE if locked.
