Unhappy Installing ABS...

I have a 1987 300E and i just found out that my ABS conrtol unit went out. So i need to know if it is possible to replace one myself and if it would require and any special tools, so far i know they range for a used one about $350-$500 and a new one $1000. So im going for a used one. Oh yeah are there any special instructions i need or anything to watch out for?

Thank You

How did you learn the ABS unit is out? I ask because a bad OVP (or blown 10amp fuse on the OVP) can cause the ABS light to remail lit.

Mechanic

My mechanic called me saying that i have a bad sensor but then traced it to the ABS control unit, so that was a bad news day

ABS control unit? As in the hydraulic "thingy?" It can be damaged by not changing the brake fluid religiously. Gunk gets into the unit, or moisture can cause corrision.

I'm not sure about replacing the unit, but make sure any used one you buy is in PERFECT shape, and then work hard to keep it that way.

No, the ABS control unit (Anti-lock brakes) is a computer that receives info from the sensors on each wheel telling it when it becomes locked up and then fixes the lockup.
