16V Cylinder Head Cleaning
I removed the cylinder head from my 16V. It has some carbon deposits on the cylinder roof and valves that are really hard and tough to remove. What is the best way to remove the carbon build up. Is it safe to have a shop hot tank the aluminum head? Any other ideas?

In reply to both of your posts, I would take the head to a reputable automotive machine shop and have the work done by a pro. The expense is more than worth the end result. You will get back a part that has been throughly cleaned and reconditioned, and, if it needed valve train work, unless you had the correct tooling, best left to the pro anyway.

BE SURE THAT THEY DO NOT PUT THE HEAD IN A BEAD BLASTER. I have seen this done over and over, and I don't like it. Just have it chemically cleaned, and repaired as needed.

Guys,
Thanks for the info and tips. I'll look for a good shop and make sure they don't bead blast the head. Steif1 |
